How do I become an artist at Sound Camp?
Submit the Artist Application. Be sure to fully complete the form and include any relevant documents, links, and/or media. Incomplete applications may not be considered.

Will I be paid or receive a grant for my art?
Artists may receive support for materials or build needs on a case-by-case basis. All accepted artists will receive:
âž A comped festival pass
âž A parking pass
âž Shuttle service
Please indicate any requests for financial assistance in your application.
Note: Approval is not guaranteed.

Will Sound Camp help me install my piece?
Artists are expected to be self-sufficient for the installation, maintenance, and removal (strike) of their work. A limited build crew may be available for large-scale or complex projects. If you may need help, please outline your needs clearly in your application.

I'm a flow artist [hooping, poi, shuffling, etc.] — can I perform?
Yes! Sound Camp celebrates movement arts as a core part of the experience. All guests are encouraged to flow and dance freely throughout the event. However, to be featured in official programming (e.g., schedules, showcases, stage sets, etc.) you must:
âž Apply in advance
âž Receive written approval from Sound Camp
Unregistered performers will not be featured in official programming.

Can I spin fire?
Yes — fire spinning is permitted for approved and registered performers. Because Sound Camp takes place during Texas wildfire season, strict safety protocols are enforced in coordination with local fire authorities. To spin fire, you must:
âž Receive advance written approval from Sound Camp
âž Pass an on-site fire safety inspection
âž Only spin in designated fire-safe zones
âž Follow all fuel depot and spin-off procedures
âž Use approved props and fuels only (e.g., white gas or lamp oil)
âž Sign a fire safety waiver
âž Provide a Certificate of Insurance naming Sound Camp as additionally insured
Fire spinning is strictly prohibited in camps or outside of the official spin zone. You must check with the Fire Safety Lead upon arrival. Sound Camp reserves the right to suspend or cancel fire spinning at any time due to weather, burn bans, or safety concerns. Failure to comply will result in immediate removal from the event.

Can I host a workshop or interactive experience?
Absolutely! Workshops and immersive activations are essential to Sound Camp's creative culture. Please describe your proposed experience clearly in the application including materials, space needs, and schedule preferences.

Are there any insurance requirements?
Most artists do not need to provide insurance. However, a Certificate of Insurance (COI) naming Sound Camp as additionally insured is required if your piece or performance includes:
âž Fire
âž Aerial rigging or acrobatics
âž Heavy equipment
âž Public interaction with potential physical risk
Insurance requirements will be outlined in your Artist Packet, if applicable.

Do I get early site access?

If you piece is displayed in the campgrounds, you may be required to arrive and set up as early as Wednesday, September 24th, to ensure your work is ready for Early Arrival campers on the 25th. Full arrival details and scheduling will be outlined in your Artist Packet.

Can I camp near my installation?
Not directly. Artists may camp in the Sound Camp staff/team camping area or in the main campground, depending on space and prior approval. Please request this in your application if it is important to your setup or schedule.
Note: Sound Camp will have 24-hour security throughout the weekend, and we are committed to helping protect your art. However, we cannot be held responsible for any damage, theft, or weather-related issues. Please plan accordingly and secure your work as needed.
